Normally, your mind is filled with new ideas, like an invisible helmet or an anti-sog microwave. They pop into your head all the time. And then when we ask you to come up with a new innovation for YiA…POOF! They’re all gone!
If you’re blanking on coming up with an innovation for this year’s Awards, you’re not alone. When it comes to innovation, coming up with an idea out of thin air is HARD.
But we’re here to help.
Forget thinking of a totally new invention, app or idea. Instead, look around you and OBSERVE the world. What are some problems in your daily life?
Once you come up with a PROBLEM, then you can start brainstorming a solution. Suddenly, BAM! You’re innovating, and you didn’t even realise it.
Many of our past winners were successful because they took the first step of identifying a problem. Look at Emily, last year’s junior winner, who noticed on the bus to swimming practice that every second driver seemed to be on their phone. Or senior winner Maddy, who understood the challenges of learning with dyslexia.
So put INNOVATING on the shelf for now and take some time to find your PROBLEM!
